NaFe2+3Al6(BO3)3Si6O18(OH)4 is an ongoing series of oil paintings started in 2019 at the Leveld Kunstnartun AiR.

The title of this work refers to the chemical formula of the black tourmaline mineral, also known as schorl. Here I create bridges of tourmaline paintings for connecting randomly used serviettes, handkerchiefs and other objects given to me by visitors to my studio. 

 

In this work, bridges are the "non-places" that function to connect rejected objects which carry signs of use or misuse.

 

In Brazilian native mythology, tourmaline rocks are believed to create bridges between humans and ghosts.
